Bull McCabe’s Irish Pub offers low-key debauchery
November 10, 2007
If you want to have an enjoyable, stress-free weekend night with your friends, 6th Street is not the place to go.
The bars are packed so tight there’s barely room to breathe, the music is so loud that it’s impossible to hold a conversation, and the people are so wild they’ll make you feel pruder than your grandmother.
So where can you go?
There is of course Stubb’s. They have delicious appetizers (I recommend the beer-battered jalepenos and onions) with a deliciously complementary beer selection.
But cross the street and stroll just a block south, and there you will find Bull McCabe’s — a low key Irish pub with plenty of breathing room.
In terms of drink selection, McCabe’s is no different from most bars: They’ve got it all. But what McCabe’s offers that so starkly contrasts its counterparts on 6th is a relaxed ambience. The interior is minimally lighted, there is always a place to sit, and the music is not only at a reasonable volume… it’s actually good. From the Beatles to the Clash to Springsteen, McCabe’s plays the classics that serve as great background noise to any get-together instead of the ear-drum bursting, incessantly pumping club beats of the bars on 6th.
So after a long week, don’t add a stressful weekend outing to a stressful week of work and study. Head to McCabe’s with some friends, grab a Guiness, and relax.
